About The Artist
Jesse was born and raised in Southern California. The past few years he's made West Michigan his home.
His foundational art instruction came from Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. He was Fatemeh Burnes and Thomas Stubbs student. Additionally, he studied computer graphics and computer aided drafting.
In 1998, he was hired as an intern for the Animation Department at DreamWorks Animation studios in Glendale, CA. There he learned hands on at the studio where they offered free classes on traditional animation and figure drawing. His skills improved exponentially in a very short time under the tutelage of Steve Huston. A few months later, he landed a position as a Final Line Artist Trainee (Also, known as “Inbetweener”) at DreamWorks. Out of 30 applicants, 6 were chosen and he was one of the six. While working at DreamWorks, he met many amazing artists. One he became very fond of was Atanas Karpeles, whose modern art he found refreshing in comparison to the rigid drawings he had been doing. Through conversation and example, he inspired Jesse to paint & explore more, so he took a class with an airbrush artist named Noah at Coast Airbrush in Orange County. It launched him into a new direction. He began to paint murals with his airbrush.
Later, he landed a job as a lead art instructor for a chain of studios called Kids Art. He taught art to children and adults ages 4 and up for a couple of years at various studios. One of his best-known students was Madylin Sweeten, who was known for her role as Ally Barone in the TV Series called, "Everybody Loves Raymond." Teaching students brought out the curiosity in him and he found himself experimenting with various mediums like oil paints, oil pastels, acrylics, pastels, charcoals, pen & ink, and watercolors. The owner of the studio, Ed Warren, was instrumental in Jesse excelling in their use. He taught him using a step-by-step method he had developed through the study of the masters, which was very exact and deliberate in its approach. The results were fantastic. Nobody had ever explained art to Jesse with such technical precision.
Now-a-days, Jesse lives in western Michigan where the scenery is awe-inspiring. He continues to try to master the art of drawing and painting people, animals, caricatures, landscapes, cityscapes, and modern art on a daily basis.
